WELCOME
The battlefield is a remarkable place for what it teaches the men and women who serve there. It teaches them that there is something greater than themselves and that duty and honor are not just words. It teaches them the true meaning of sacrifice, determination, teamwork, and courage. It also teaches them the capacity they have to face fear and do the right thing no matter how difficult doing so might be.
Heroes don’t know they are heroes until the moment comes when they must decide either to stand and fight or to turn and run - and they choose to stand up. They often do so at great personal sacrifice and against impossible odds. Those of us who benefit from their courage and sacrifice owe them a debt we cannot repay. We also owe our gratitude to the parents, teachers, and mentors who taught them lessons of honor, duty, and character and who helped make them who they are. Heroes are not born, they are made.
A person does not have to serve in the military or go to war to demonstrate heroism. Heroes are found in all walks of life and in a wide range of circumstances. But the men and women who battle in defense of our nation have unparalleled experiences that make them uniquely qualified to talk about courage, honor, and sacrifice. Hall Pass Heroes was created in order to bring their stories into the classroom. If we want the next generation of Americans to grow up knowing what it costs to preserve our freedom, to be better citizens, and to be heroic when their moments come, we must do all we can to help them learn these lessons. We must give them the gift of these stories. They will not stand up by accident.
